The Cast
Guru Sri Hari Rama Murthy Garu (Bhasmasura) http://kuchipudinatya.org Mr Hari learnt dance under the tutelage of the legendary Kuchipudi maestro Padmabhushan Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam at Chennai. He was the principal dancer in Dr Satyam's ballets since 1984. He has traveled to Europe, Americas and Australia as a member of Dr Satyam's troupe. Some major nationally acclaimed dance festivals were he has performed includes Konark Dance Festival, Khajuraho Dance Festival, Sangeet Natak Academy dance festivals, and tours sponsored by the ICCR. Some noteworthy performances in the US include at the Kennedy Center and performances for various cultural organizations. He also performed for the First world Music and theatre festival in Amsterdam. In additional to being an internally acclaimed performer he is a beloved guru or mentor to many students of Kuchipudi. He currently manages the training of Kuchipudi to students in Kuchipudi Kalakshetra an institution started by his guru Dr Satyam. He also imparts training in Kuchipudi at Andhra University Dance Department where he works as a Dance Lecturer. Smt Bhanu Rama Murthy (Laxmi)

Smt Bhanu Ramanataraj started her career as a student of Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, established by the maestro Padmabhushan Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam and was one of the illustrious students. She received the Govt of India Junior Fellowship for Kuchipudi and played important roles in the institute's productions. She started her own institute Sri Siddhendra Yogi Kalanilayam and imparts training to students in the intricacies of Kuchipudi. She trains beginners as well as advanced students in the intricacies of Kuchipudi. She specializes in the teaching of Abhinaya or the emotive aspect of dance. Combining her theoretical expertise with practical training and an innate understanding of the sahitya she is the resource person guiding many senior students in their choreographic experiments mainly dealing with Jayadeva's Gita Govinda and Kshetrayya's poetry. As part of the Prashar Bharathi's Saratjyotsna celebrations she has choreographed a full length production "Tava Virahe” based on the life and poetry of Jayadeva with poems from Gita Govindam. To highlight the importance of the influence of folk traditions on the development of classical dance she has choreographed a full length ballet on folk traditions of Andhra Pradesh titled "Janapada Sringaram” for Prashar Bharathi, Visakhapatnam. She was given the Ugadi Puraskaram 2010 by the Roja Music and Dance Academy for her contributions to Kuchipudi. Affectionately called as Bhanuakka by many of her juniors and her students, she has also encouraged many students to pursue their solo dance careers by helping them with programming and presentation as well as conducting Nattuvangam for their performances. Some of the major sabhas were she has conducted performances are Kala Bharathi, Vishakapatnam, World Telugu Conference 2000 at Visakhapatnam, Visakha Utsav, National Center for Performing Arts, Mumbai and India International Center, New Delhi. As a teacher she has trained many students who have received accolades and gold medals for their Certificate and Diploma examinations in Kuchipudi. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri (Mohini) An award-winning performer, choreographer and teacher, Ms. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri, is an exponent of two leading dance traditions of South India, Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi, having trained, in all authenticity, in India, under eminent Gurus of the Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai lineage (Kum. Padma and ‘Kalaimamani' Swamimalai Rajarathnam Pillai) and ‘Padmabhushan' Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam's Kuchipudi Art Academy(Smt. Bala and Guru Vempati himself). Sandhya Sree received her first gold medal at the age of 10 and went on to receive many more awards over a span of years. She is the recipient of the National scholarship from the Govt. of India for Kuchipudi and also a National Award winner for choreography in Bharata Natyam. Sandhya has performed extensively not only in India but internationally as well –Festival of India in Germany, World Theater Opera Fest., in the Netherlands, the United States of America and Canada, with both her gurus, and adorned important parts in their dance productions. Besides her wide range of performances, she has also conducted Lec. Dems. And workshops, under the auspices of the ICCR(Indian council for cultural relations) and the Central Sangeeta Natak Academy Nrtiya Utsavs, that were held in various places in India. A ‘Natya Visharada'(An award received over the hands of the doyen of Carnatic Music, Sri Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer) & ‘Singaramani' awardee, Smt. Sandhya Sree is the founder and director of "Natya Dharmi” foundation for performing arts, and resides in Rochester Hills, MI, where she shares her skills with artistes in various fields and also trains aspirants in the field of Dance. She is also the dance faculty at Kalakshetra, Temple of Arts in Framington, MI, training students in Bharat natyam and Kuchipudi. Sandhya's cultural achievements are not limited to Indian Classical dance- she has had significant training and background in Carnatic Classical music with her guide and mentor, her mother Smt. Indira Devi, (a Postgraduate in Music and a versatile artiste herself), undoubtedly an asset that is complementary to and reflective of her sustaining interest in all fine arts. |

Sudha Vadlamani (Lord Vishnu) Sudha is a kuchipudi dance teacher based in Richmond, Virginia. She choreographed various items (Surati Thillana, Annamcharya keerthans, Ramadasu keerthnas and few folk songs) which were presented in numerous programs conducted in Richmond As a child, she found her inspiration in renowned dance exponents the great legend PADMA BHUSHAN Dr.Vempati Chinna Satyam, Smt. A B Bala Kondala Rao, Sri. Hari Rama Murthy and Sri.Mahankali Sri Rama Chandra Murthy. Her passion for the art continued through her learning years at "Kuchipudi Kalakshetra", Visakhapatnam (founded by Padma Bhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam) for 15 years. Even to date, whenever she visits India, she finds time to go to the Kalakshetram to improve/learn new items and skills needed to teach. In spite of many obstacles faced personally, Sudha made a commitment to herself to never give up learning dance. She feels any kind of art form is important to keep a person emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and academically strong. For Sudha, her heart fell in love with dance. She was fortunate to have been associated with great Gurus as mentioned above. She gave numerous solo and group performances all over India & Eastern U.S.A. Recently, she was invited to be a judge for Dance festival theme presented by the Hindu center of VA at the Festival Of India. Chinta Rama Murthy (Rakshasa Bhatudu)
Sri Chinta Rama Murthy garu was born in the village of Kuchipudi and hails from a traditional family of Kuchipudi artists. His great great grandfather Shri Chinta Venkatrammaya garu was known as "Yakshagana Pitamaha" or the father of the Kuchipudi Yakshaganas because of his monumental choreographic contributions to the art of Kuchipudi. His
grandfather started the Venkatramana Natya Mandali a theatre group and choreographed and performed dramas like Prahlada Yakshagana,Mohini Rukmangada and Rama Natakam to name a few. His grandfather Shri Chinta Ramamurthy garu was well known for his portrayal of characters of Arjuna and Rama. His grandfather’s brother Shri Chinta Krishnamurthy garu was honored with the title of "Bharata Kala Prapoorna" for his contributions to the art form of Kuchipudi. Born in an illustrious lineage Shri Chinta Rama Murthy garu began his journey in Kuchipudi by joining in the Siddhendra Kalakshetram in the village of Kuchipudi under the tutelage of Gurus Pasumarthy Venugopala Krishna Sharma garu and Vedantam Rattaya Sharma garu. As a child he excelled in the roles of goddess Parvathy. In 1981 he came under the tutelage of the legendary Padmabhushan Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam garu and
received the titile of Natya Visharada in the year 1983. In his long association with Dr Satyam, he travelled with Dr Satyam’s troupe all over the world. Some of the highlights of his career are given below.
Apart from being an exquisite performer he has also shared his knowledge, experience, love and passion for the art form with his students. He taught at the institute Kala Mandir an institute run by the Tatas in Jamshedpur from 1986 to 1992. He later established his own institution Kuchipudi Natyakala Sri Bharathi in the village of
Kuchipudi and imparts training in the intricacies of the art form to dedicated students. He has choreographed many Annamacharya and Ramdasa Kirtanas for his students. In his long professional association with the legendary Padmashri Vedantam Satyanarayana Sharma garu, he has played many major roles in the Kuchipudi Yakshaganas. Some of the
roles he has played include: He is very popular for his portrayal of Narasimha Swamy in the Yakshagana Bhakta Prahlada choreographed by the late Vedantam Rattaya Sharma garu. He also lent Nattuvangam support for ballets Ksheera Sagara Madhanam and Sita Rama Kalyanam. |

U. Rama Subba Raju (Character in Dasavataram) Subba Raju, a disciple of Sri Hari Ramamurthy, is a prodigious artiste. A student of Kuchipudi Kalakshetra for nine years, he has performed in countless festivals and performances across India, as well as for television programs such as Saptagiri Channel's "Muvvala Savvadi Moved by his performances, Kuralla Somasekhara Trust named him "Best Upcoming Artiste" and Abhinaya Nruthya Bharati presented the "Natya Kaumadi" award to him. His enthralling performances in competitions including those conducted by Andhra University's S. S. Cultural Creations, Bala Bhavan, and the All India Major Ports Cultural Competitions have consistently earned him first prizes. In addition to earning his diploma in Kuchipudi dance from Pottisreeramulu Telugu University in 2011, he completed his certificate course in Carnatic music at Pottisreeramulu Telugu University in 2007 as well. An accomplished vocalist, he has accompanied dance performances as a lead vocalist as well. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at GITAM University. |

Ameya Jammi (Narada) Ameya Jammi is a student of Sri Sai Dance Academy under Smt. Sarada Jammi. While she grew up immersed in the art form of Kuchipudi, Ameya began seriously pursuing it at Kuchipudi Kalakshetra in Visakhapatnam at the age of eleven. After moving to the United States, she has primarily learned from her mother, Smt. Sarada Jammi, but she has also regularly had intensive training sessions under Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. Satyabhanu in India and the United States. Ameya has performed in the Richmond area for Indian cultural organizations, the annual Virginia Dance Festival for the Children's Hospital, and Henrico County Public School events, as well as in lecture demonstrations at the University of Richmond and performances at Southern Illinois University and the first Siddhendra Aradhana at the Siva Vishnu Temple. Additionally, she performed alongside Kuchipudi Kalakshetra students around Andhra Pradesh during the summer of 2007. Ameya, who completed her rangapravesam in 2006, also helps teach Sri Sai Dance Academy students. Ameya is a senior at the College of William and Mary majoring in Mathematics and Government. |

Sathya Areti (Character in Dasavataram) Sathya Areti has been learning Kuchipudi for nearly eight years from Smt. Sarada Jammi. She has performed in various events in the Richmond area such as Sai temple events and programs held by various local Indian associations, as well as at the Siva Vishnu Temple for the 2002 Siddhendra Aradhana. Sathya has also learned from Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. Satyabhanu when they conducted dance camps in Richmond. As she pursues the art form, Sathya helps other students of Sri Sai Dance Academy improve their own dance. Sathya is a junior in Henrico High School's International Baccalaureate program |

Likhitha Umakanth (Character in Dasavataram) Likhitha Umakanth has been learning Kuchipudi under Smt. Sarada Jammi since 2005. In addition to her training at Sri Sai Dance Academy, she has also participated in dance camps held by Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. Satyabhanu in Richmond, Va. Likhitha has performed in Henrico County Public School performances as well as at the Sai Temple in Richmond and at various Indian cultural programs in the Richmond area. She also mentors students at the Sri Sai Dance Academy. Likhitha is a freshman in Tucker High School's International Baccalaureate program |

Easha Mali (Character in Dasavataram) Easha Mali has been learning dance under Smt. Sarada Jammi at Sri Sai Dance Academy for over five years. She has also attended dance camps by Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. Satyabhanu. Easha has performed at the Sai Temple in Richmond and in various programs hosted by Richmond's Indian cultural societies. A dedicated student, she works hard not only to develop her dance but also to teach other students of Sri Sai Dance Academy. Easha is an eighth grader at Harry Flood Byrd Middle School.

Pumoli Malapati (Character in Dasavataram) Pumoli Malapati has been learning dance for over five years from Smt. Sarada Jammi at Sri Sai Dance Academy. She has learned from intensive training camps held by Sri Hari Rama Murthy and Smt. Satyabhanu. A selfless student, Pumoli patiently mentors other students at Sri Sai Dance Academy. She has performed at the Sai Temple in Richmond and in various programs hosted by Richmond's Indian cultural societies. Pumoli is a seventh grader at Harry Flood Byrd Middle School.

Annapurna Vishnubhotla (Pradama Ganas & Rakshasa Bhatudu) Annapurna Vishnubhotla has just graduated from high school and will be attending Wayne State University in the fall. She learns both Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi from Smt. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri at Natya Dharmi Foundation for Performing Arts and has been learning dance for the last 12 years. She has participated in many programs with Natya Dharmi including TANA, Kumara Sambhavam, and various other programs for foundations in the Metro Detroit area and has also has been a teaching assistant for younger students |

Ranjani Murthy (Character in Dasavataram & Pradama Gana) An award-winning Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi dancer, Ranjani Murthy has been learning Kuchipudi under one of the most talented, sincere teacher namely, Smt. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri for 11 years. The first kuchipudi graduate of ‘Natya Dharmi,’ foundation for performing arts, Ranjani has performed not only for many charity shows but also in several prestigious organizations within USA and also in India. She has also helped as a teaching assistant under Smt. Sandya Sree during her classes in Michigan. Ranjani will be a junior in college this year pursuing Speech Language Pathology in Tennessee |

Sahiti Akasapu (Court Dancer) Sahithi Akasapu has been a student of ‘Natya Dharmi’ for 3 years and she will be in 11th grade at the International Academy in the upcoming fall. A student of both Bharata Nataym and Kuchipudi, Sahithi has to her credit quite a few performances, including the 2011 Chicago Thyagaraja Utsavam and the ‘Sarovar 2011’ international festival coordinated by the Great Lakes Aradhana Committee, MI. Sahithya Chodimella (Siva) Sahithya Chodimella, the niece and disciple of Sandhya Sree Athmakuri, was the foremost graduate of ‘Natya Dharmi,’ Foundation of Performing Arts, having trained in Bharata Nataym and Kuchipudi with her Guru. Sahithya has also volunteered as a teaching assistant at the Okemos branch of ‘Natya Dharmi,’ Foundation for Performing Arts. Recipient of prestigious awards and numerous performances to her credit, Sahithya is pursuing aerospace engineering at Georgia tech. Sirisha Yellayi (Court Dancer) Sirisha Yellayi has been learning Kuchipudi under the tutelage of Smt. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri at the Natya Dharmi Foundation for Performing Arts for 11 years and performed her Kuchipudi Rangapravesm in 2009. She has performed in various programs across the United States, and has assisted her guru Smt. Sandhya Sree with teaching junior students. She has also had the privilege of learning under the tutelage of Sri Hari Ramanataraj, principle of Kuchipudi Kalakshetra in Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Sirisha has been an active participant of the Raas Team at Michigan State University where she is currently a junior pursuing her Bachelor’s degrees in Human Biology and English and aspiring to pursue a career in medicine |

Srividya Kakulavarapu (Court Dancer) Srividya Kakulavarapu, is a graduate of ‘Natya Dharmi,’ Foundation for Performing Arts and has been a student of Smt. Sandhya Sree Athmakuri for approximately 12 years, pursuing two styles of South Indian Classical dance; Bharata Natyam and Kuchipudi. Besides innumerable performances, Vidya was offered the opportunity to substitute for her dance teacher and teach dance classes at other institutions. Srividya is currently pursuing a career in Medicine at Michigan State University.
